Cambridge Roar Festival announces events for 2018

The Cambridge Roar Festival announced its eight charity events for 2018, during a packed red-carpet celebration this week at Quy Mill Hotel and Spa, the first of which will be a Football Heroes dinner on the eve of the FA Cup Final (18 May) with Cambridge United Legend and BBC pundit Steve Claridge as the top signing.

The launch party, hosted by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire presenter and non-executive Director of the Roar, Chris Mann, featured some of the highlights of the forthcoming events, including comedy and magic provided by popular local entertainer Jezo. Over 130 people attended including representatives from the three charities the Roar supports, Arthur Rank Hospice Care, East Anglian Air Ambulance, and Cambridge United Community Trust, sponsors including Porsche Cambridge, local media, and friends of the Roar.

The official announcement of events also coincided with bookings opening for this year’s Festival, with a 10% discount on all tickets until 28th February.

Tony Murdock, Chairman and Founder of the Roar, said: “Each year, we aim to be bigger, better and bolder than the last and I see us doing that again this year with these eight fantastic events. Our core aim with the Roar is to raise as much money as we can for the charities we support by hosting events that people love coming along to, all the while having loads of fun in the process. I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved and continue to achieve – which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our wonderful sponsors, partners, volunteers and all the people who attend the events. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone to Roar 2018.”

Further events being hosted at Quy Mill Hotel and Spa as part of the Roar in 2018 include:

Amateur Boxing Dinner, Saturday 9th June. Run by the Mid-Anglia Boxing Association, affiliated to England Boxing Association, this is an opportunity for guests to watch the very best amateur boxers in Cambridgeshire take on the rest of the UK, whilst they enjoy a black-tie dinner and watch 14 bouts of the finest amateur boxing.

Business Games, Thursday 14th June. An event that sees teams of six people from a range of organisations and institutions pit their wits and strength against their opponents in a series of obstacles, trials and games as they compete to win the coveted crown of Roar Business Games Champions.

Champagne Dinner, Wednesday 20th June. An exclusive and hugely popular event, this has been a sell-out for the last three years.  An intimate evening of very fine Champagne and exquisite food; there are a limited number of tickets, so this event is tipped to sell out fast once again.  This year, the Roar is delighted to be welcoming its new partner Moet & Chandon.  Pierre Darquey, on behalf of Moet & Chandon, is the host for an evening matching food with Champagne.

B2B Exhibition, Thursday 28th June. Another popular event, the B2B Exhibition is supported by The Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce and Iliffe Media, the official media partners for the Cambridge Roar Festival 2018. With over 60 stands to visit, the B2B is an opportunity for businesses in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties to promote their products and services, and build connections with other local organisations. After two successful years, the event continues to grow, and the exhibition promises to be a great networking opportunity, with speed-networking sessions throughout the day, plus two topical and engaging seminars – all free to attend!

Racing Dinner (in partnership with Newmarket Racecourse and Discover Newmarket), Wednesday 4th July. This event is always an odds-on favourite amongst Roar punters. An evening of racing fun just down the road from Newmarket, the home of horseracing. The event includes arrival drinks and a three-course dinner before a fabulous evening of racing fun, tips and stories never before heard from the panel of racing professionals. The host for the evening is none other than legendary racing presenter and commentator Derek ‘Tommo’ Thompson (TV Broadcaster and Radio 5 Live). Previous panellists have included Bob Champion, Michael Prosser, Gay Kellaway, Freddie Tilicki, Charlie Fellowes, Martin Smith, and Hayley Turner.

Afternoon Tea, Thursday 19th July. An afternoon of shopping in the Roar’s boutique stores, plus tea, cake and bingo… A perfect way to while away an afternoon with friends.

The Greatest Ball, Saturday 22nd September. As always, the Grand Finale of the Cambridge Roar promises a few surprises. Based on the film, ‘The Greatest Showman’, the Roar is set to stage a fantastic evening of music, dance, glamour, and much more.  Each year, the Roar Finale Balls have a different theme and a touch of the unexpected – this year promises the same and is set to be the best yet according to the organisers.

Throughout all these events, guests can take home a range of high-quality prizes through a series of charity auctions and raffles.
